Hannaford KIDZ EXPO: A cure for winter blues
Image to go with the Hannaford KIDZ EXPO: A cure for winter blues cover story

Wild animals, including a leopard cub, Radio Disney and a Wii, bounce houses, a planterium, hands-on kids activities and entertainment, all free and all inside at the end of cold and snowy winter? What parent could resist?
The 4th Annual Hannaford Kidz Expo offers all that and a peanut butter sandwhich!
The event, being held on the Empire Plaza concourse, Saturday, March 7 from 10 am. to 5 p.m at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, has a little bit of everything for everyone from your tiny tots to your pre-teens and plenty of information for moms and dads.
The best part about the event?
“It’s free,” said Mike Snyder, marketing director for New York State Office of General Services.  “It’s a great kid-friendly event that breaks up the winter. Strollers are welcome, there is underground parking, all our exibitors are local people and families can come for just an hour or spend the entire day. Did I mention it’s free?”
Snyder said the expo is a great opportunity for families to not only spend a fun day together, but for parents to gather information on preschools, afterschool activity programs, banks, sports facilities, birthday party entertainment, summer camps, college planning, museums, local travel spots, health programs and more. Parents and guardians can also stop by the New York State police booth and receive a free Operation Safe Child idenity card for their children.
That is just the beginning, Garrison Excelsior 501st Legion Star Wars characters will roam the area and there will be facepainting, storytelling, puppet theater, magic shows, clowns and dance demos.
And that afore mentioned peanut butter sandwich? It's available at the Kidz Kafé offering the kid-satifiying meals and snacks little ones will love, which you may need if you want to stay to see all the expo has to offer.
