it depends on the age of the child being baby sat, and the number of kids. I would say the absolute youngest is 12, that is for only one child and not a small baby.
By 14 they can usually handle either a baby or 2 toddlers. It all depends on the sitter.
As for what you need to know, most of it is common sense.
