email: Adriana Alvarez, a senior at Maple Hill High School and valued employee of the Castleton Public Library, was recently honored by the Capital District Library Council as 2009 Outstanding Student Employee. In ceremonies held at the council's offices, Alvarez was honored along with employees of The Sage Colleges, Union College, Crandall Public Library & Fulton-Montgomery Community College for qualities such as responsibility, attendance, peer leadership and excellent patron services.
Alvarez began her library career in the summer of 2004 as a participant in the Rensselaer County Summer Youth Employment Program. She has been a friendly, familiar face to patrons ever since.
"She has proven to be a valuable asset to the library over the last 5 years, and has played a large role in our being named runner up 'Best Small Library in America' in 2008, and one of 'America's Star Libraries' in 2009," reports Darlene Miller, Castleton Public Library director. "Anna has been
involved in every aspect of the day to day running of the library. Most recently she has distinguished herself as an accurate cataloger and her knowledge of our collection is second to none."
Alvarez plans to pursue library science as a career, and has been accepted on full scholarship to the Palmer School of Library and Information Science at Long Island University.
